Wendy’s Shake It Weight Management Challenge
Week 5.
Commencing Wednesday 4th August 2010
Current weight: 63kgs (lost total 3kg)
Waist: 74cm (lost total 2cm)
Love handles: 97cm (lost total 5cm)
My aim this week was to increase fat burning that I incorporated last week using ‘Thermo Burn’. If you recall when I started the Shake-It challenge, 2 other ladies took up the challenge with me and we have all lost weight. We should have taken the ‘Thermo Burn’ from the get go as if has had a dramatic effect on fat coming off our waistlines but hips also.
The ladies have given me permission to mention their challenges so I’ll go into brief detail. Kelly has lost the most weight of the 3 of us, but in fairness she had the most to lose. Kelly’s ideal weight should be around 65kgs but she weighed in at 83kgs and in 5 weeks she has lost 8kgs. The largest change she has made in these weeks is to understand portion size and she is learning to prepare healthy food at home – she never learned to cook so has always brought home prepared food or ate in restaurants.
Jan (similar weight to me) is the other lady and she wanted to lose about 5kgs to tidy herself up for summer. Jan has already lost her 5kgs, which was not a problem, it’s keeping it off……..
This draws me to the subject of what is called ‘set point’ with weight. We all seem to have a body ‘set point’ which is why so many weight loss programs fail to keep the dieter at their new lower weight. In fact the dieter will put on more weight after they go back to their old habits even if they exercise moderately.
How do you change your body’s ‘set point’? Well, it’s about allowing your body to perform functionally after some weight loss + your body recognising this as the new ‘set point’. Those that dramatically drop weight quickly, haven’t given there metabolism on a cellular level (this is mechanism that controls ‘set point’) a chance to function.
So Jan and myself will get to our 6 week mark and continue to eat well, do our shakes and soups, exercise and establish new ‘set points’ for our bodies. Kelly who has a little more to lose than us will continue for another 4 weeks as she is very motivated and wants to hit the high 60’s before she establishes her new ‘set point’. At which point she is out to buy some very smart outfits that hug to her new figure, which is now developing a waist line. If she chooses to lose more weight it would be after Xmas and on the condition she has maintained her new weight without fluctuating.
11th August weigh in day; this is the loss for this week
Weight: 62 kgs (lost 1 kg)
Waist: 73cm (lost 1cm)
